Sergers - Enlighten (BLE3ATW2), Imagine Wave (BLE3ATW) & Imagine (BLE3AT)

Information related specifically to the Baby Lock Enlighten, Imagine Wave and Imagine sergers.

Q: I would like to do the "Blanket stitch" that is on ready to wear garments and blankets. Can I do this with my Enlighten, Imagine Wave, or Imagine?
A: Yes, it can be done with the Baby Lock Enlighten, Imagine Wave, or Imagine serger models. Here are the general directions to set up your serger model for achieving a blanket stitch.

Settings for  Enlighten, Imagine Wave or Imagine
  • Three thread flatlock
  • Needle thread: Wooly nylon, Monet or your choice of decorative
  • Upper Looper: serger
  • Lower Looper: serger thread
Cut a narrow strip of Sulky water soluble stabilizer and place along edge of fabric and serge the stabilizer into the flatlock stitch. Pull the stabilizer to the edge of the fabric and tear away. This action pulls the stitching into the blanket stitch.

Q: Are there accessory feet for my Baby Lock Imagine serger?
A: Yes. There are a couple of ways to find the accessories available for your serger:
  • From your serger model web page, then select the "Related Accessories" tab
  • Our web site has an Accessory search page. Here is that web page address: http://www.babylock.com/accessories/
You also might want to watch some of the Sew at Home OnDemand (pre-recorded) classes.

Q: I love the idea of the wave stitch-the reason I bought my Imagine Wave or Enlighten. I would like some additional guidance for threading for the wave stitch.
A: The Wave stitch is a Baby Lock exclusive and so much fun to incorporate into many projects. Here are several suggestions:
    • Start by visiting your Baby Lock Dealer. They can give you the best direction on how to set-up your model in person. Also, if they offer classes on decorative serging, be sure to sign up!
    • While at your dealer, look at the Inspiration Guide for your model of serger. It has detailed instructions on decorative serging techniques as well as working with decorative threads.
    • Refer to the "Quick Threading Guide: that came with your serger.
    • Take a look at the Sew at Home OnDemand (pre-recorded) website for classes such as "Imagine Wave Instructional Video". You can watch these over and over again from the comfort of home.

Q: I love the idea that I can use air to thread my serger but I need some instructions on how to use the Jet Air™  Threading for my upper and lower loopers on the Imagine or Imagine Wave.
A: Through our Sew at Home OnDemand (pre-recorded) classes website we offer video classes to get you started with the Imagine and Imagine Wave sergers, ithreading...and much more!  The class titles are "Imagine Wave Instructional Video" and "Imagine Instructional Video". Click here for a link to the Sew at Home OnDemand website and order the FREE video class for your serger today! Note you will need to set-up an account on this website, even if you have a Baby Lock website profile, they are different.

Q: I love the idea that I can use air to thread the upper looper on my Imagine, but can you show me how it works?
A: We have prepared a movie clip to show you how to thread the upper looper on your Imagine serger. Click here to view the movie clip.

Q: There are times when I want to move my threads around and do not want to really cut the threads. The problem I have is getting the thread out of the first thread guide after the antenna. Can you give me some suggestions?
A: This thread guide is very secure so the thread does not jump out of the thread guide. Click here to view the movie clip on how to remove the thread from this guide without cutting your threads.

Q: I need help threading my Imagine loopers with decorative threads, any suggestions?
A: There are a number of ways to thread your loopers with decorative thread; one is by creating a thread cradle. Click here for a movie clip on how to use the thread cradle method.

Q: I really want to use decorative thread in my Enlighten, Imagine Wave, or Imagine serger. I know there is a looper threading tool that comes with the serger but need help using it.
A: View the movie clip of how to thread your loopers with decorative thread using the looper threading wire. Remember with the Automatic Thread Delivery System you'll get a great stitch every time!

Q: I own an Enlighten, Imagine Wave, or Imagine serger with the Jet Air™ or ExtraordinAir™ threading system. I would like information on decorative stitching and the use of decorative threads. Where can I find this information?
    A: Here are several suggestions:
    • Start by visiting your Baby Lock Dealer. They can give you the best direction on how to master your threading system in person. Also, if they offer classes on decorative serging, be sure to sign up!
    • While at your dealer, look at the Inspiration Guide for your model of serger. It has detailed instructions on decorative serging techniques as well as working with decorative threads.
    • Take a look at the Sew at Home OnDemand (pre-recorded) website for cclasses you can take right from home, 24/7 and even in your jammies!

Q: Can I put monofilament in the needles of my Enlighten, Imagine Wave, or Imagine serger?
A: Yes. Make sure it is a soft pliable monofilament thread. Stitch at a slow to moderate consistent speed. Use a thread net on the spool of thread (as needed) and sponge disks at the bottom to prevent thread pooling.

Q: I can't figure out how to use the needle threader on my Imagine Wave or Imagine serger. Please give me more instructions.
A: We have great Bonus Sew at Home OnDemand (pre-recorded) classes that are designed to get you started with the Imagine and Imagine Wave sergers, including the threader...and lots more!

Q: Can I use heavier thread in the needles of my Enlighten, Imagine Wave, Imagine serger?
A: Yes. Since these sergers use regular sewing machine needles, you can use a larger needle such as #14 to accommodate the heavier thread.

Q: I am making a rolled hem on lingerie with my Enlighten, Imagine Wave, or Imagine serger. When I make a seam, the stitch looks fine, but the looper threads hang off the edge of the fabric. I have adjusted the stitch length and width, with no luck, help! Any suggestions?
A: Move the differential feed lever to a higher number 1.3. The large feed dogs on sergers may tend to push the fabric away from the stitch finger, especially with lighter fabric. This causes the loops to fall off the edge and adjusting the Differential feed up will improve this situation.

Q: I have the Enlighten, Imagine Wave, or Imagine serger and the left needle thread keeps breaking. What do I do to correct this?
A: Here are some tips to check your serger:
    • Make sure the thread flows smoothly by making sure the thread is not tangled on the thread stand or the antennae
    • Make sure the thread is snug in the tension disk
    • Change the needle

Q: I have Imagine Wave or Imagine serger and I cannot get theJet Air™  threading to work on the lower looper. What do I do?
A: Be sure to check that the looper threader selector has been moved to the correct looper.
