Materials:
- 1 ½ yards of 45” wide floral printed cotton fabric
- 7/8 yard of 45” wide pink checked cotton fabric
- ½ yard of 45” wide white cotton fabric
- 1 5/8 yard of backing fabric
- Decorative embroidery thread for quilting
- All-purpose thread to match fabrics
- Crib size quilt batting
- 5 ½ yards of baby rickrack trim
- Water soluble marking pen
- Ruler
- Rotary cutting system

Steps:

Cut the following:

62 pink checked squares 3” x 3”

62 white squares 3” x 3”

32 floral squares 5 ½” x 5 ½”

5 floral strips 3” x 45”

Sew one 3” pink check square and one 3” white square together. Press the seams to one side.

Sew the remaining 61 squares of each color together in the same manner.

Sew two of the sets from the above together. Press the seam. Sew the remaining sets into blocks 31 blocks total.

Arrange 9 rows of 7 blocks. Alternate the pieced blocks with the floral blocks.

Start with a floral block in the upper corner alternate from that point. A floral block will be placed in each of the four corners.

Sew one row at a time piecing the blocks together and pressing the seams towards the floral blocks.

Sew the completed rows together and press the seams well.

Sew the border strips together as needed and press the seams.

Pin the borders to the two sides of the quilt first sew to the quilt and press the seams towards the borders.

Pin the remaining borders to the top and bottom of the quilt sew to the quilt and press.

Layer baste and quilt as desired.

The quilting was designed with Designers Gallery Decorative Quilting. The design is the “Heart Flower” variation number 4. Sized to fit the quilt blocks on the diagonal.

Prepare the machine for embroidery threading the machine with embroidery thread to highlight the quilted designs.

Mark the center of each block using a water soluble marking pen.

Hoop and sew one design in the middle of each block.

Bind the quilt with the pink and white check fabric.

Pin the baby rickrack to the quilt right at the edge where the binding attaches to the quilt. Topstitch the rickrack to the quilt with matching thread.

Change up the color scheme to match the decor or nursery.
