Show your pride for the USA by creating this embroidered wreath. The flag design is a Baby Lock Solaris Sewing and Embroidery machine exclusive, so this project will be distinct as well as patriotic! Download printable instructions.

  • 1 Purchased large grape wreath
  • Purchased flowers for ornamentation
  • 1 Yard of white linen fabric
  • Madeira® embroidery thread
  • Baby Lock Cut-Away Ultra Soft Fusible Stabilizer (BLC204)
  • Baby Lock Shape-Flex Stabilizer (BLFF1510)
  • Hot Stitch Glue Gun
  • Basic sewing and embroidery supplies

  1. Cut a section of fabric larger than the largest hoop for the Solaris (10 5/8” x 16”).

  2. Fuse the stabilizer to the backside of the fabric. We used two layers of the stabilizer. This will help to secure the design so that it does not stretch too much during embroidery.

  3. Hoop the stabilized fabric in the hoop.

  4. Set up the machine for embroidery:

    1. Wind two bobbins using the Finishing Touch Thread that comes packaged with the machine

    2. Place the hoop onto the embroidery unit.

  5. To retrieve the design, follow the next set of steps:

    1. Click on the Embroidery option on the opening screen.

    2. Select Exclusives.

    3. Select the Novelty category.

    4. Select design number 001

    5. Click on Set to place the design on the workspace.

    6. Click on Embroidery.

  6. To place a basting stitch around the design, click on Edit while following the next set of steps:

    1. Click on Layout.

    2. Select the basting stitch icon as shown in the red box below. The basting stitch will embroidery first and will be shown with black thread.

  7. Embroider the design using the designated thread colors. Madeira embroidery thread is perfect for this project.

  8. The design will take several hours to embroider (282 minutes). Remove the design from the hoop after it has been completed.

  9. Remove the basting stitches.

  10. Using a sharp pair of scissors, trim around the design leaving ½” fabric.

  11. Using the Baby Lock Shape-Flex Stabilizer, cut out one section the same size as the embroidered flag. This will give the embroidered flag a firm backing.

  12. Center the embroidered flag over the Shape-Flex Stabilizer section. Be sure that the ½” fabric edge remains free. Fuse the two sections together.

  13. Turn the ½” outer edge fabric to the backside of the Shape-Flex stabilizer. Clip the fabric as needed to form a nice clean edge. Fuse in place.

  14. Placing the grape wreath on a flat surface, decorate the wreath with flowers as desired.

  15. Using a Hot Stick Glue Gun to apply the embroidered flag design to the wreath.

  16. Hang on your door and enjoy!
