- 4.5” x 18” strips of jersey knit fabric
- 2 buttons 5/8” or larger
Tools:
- Baby Lock Sewing Machine

Steps:
-
Cut strips at 4.5” x 18” with the stretch-iest part going lengthwise.
-
Fold in half lengthwise right sides together.
-
Serge along the long edge with a 3-thread wide or 4-thread overlock stitch OR use a stretch stitch on your sewing machine creating a ¼” to 3/8” seam allowance if you don’t have a serger.
-
Turn right side out and press with the seam along the center back.
-
Press a ½” in on one end. Insert the other raw edge into the pressed edge and topstitch with a straight stitch.
-
Measure over 4” from the center back on both sides and mark the button placement.
-
Using the Button Fitting Foot (M) and engaging the clear built-in shank creator on the foot.
-
Slide your button in the foot centering the holes (do the front holes first if you are using a 4-hole button then move to the back holes).
-
Find the Button Sewing Stitch (looks like a bar tack) on your machine.
-
Use the handwheel to check that the needle will not hit the button.
-
Once you are certain that the needle will clear both holes on the button sew the button in place.
-
Stitch it again for extra security.
