Get ready to celebrate Hanukkah with these Gelt Tree little pouches of treats! Use your sewing and embroidery machine to create these easy velvet pouches and then pick out your favorite font to stitch out the numbers and "Happy Hanukkah" saying. Download printable instructions.
Materials:
- ½-yard of blue Velvet of choice
- 1/8" wide satin ribbon
- Navy 40 weight Madeira embroidery thread
- White 40 weight Madeira embroidery thread
- Navy Madeira sewing thread
- Baby Lock Tearaway Sticky Stabilizer
- Heat Away topper

Steps:

On your embroidery machine choose a font and create the numbers one through eight approximately 1.5" high.

Center your velvet square.

Start with a 5" square and use a tear away sticky stabilizer. Use a heat away stabilizer as a topper.

Stitch your numbers on your squares in white embroidery thread or a complementary color of choice. You can hoop a larger hoop and do more than one bag embroidery at a time.

On the opposite side of the bag use the small version of the font to write “Happy Hanukkah” or another saying. Use the same stabilizer and topper for this embroidery.

Once all of the embroidery is complete it is time to put the bags together. Tip: Zigzag or serge the bag edges to finish them so that they don't fray.

At the top of the bag create a ½" casing on each side of the bag then sew it together with right sides together.

Start stitching just below the casing across the bottom and up the other side stopping just before the casing.

Cut two pieces of ribbon for each bag 15" long. Using a safety pin thread the ribbon through both sides of the casing and tie off one side with a double.

Repeat for the other side. This will create your drawstrings.

To heat away the topper use your iron carefully.

Tip: I found that the same tool used to attach heat set crystals worked great for removing the heat away stabilizer especially on the small lettering.
