Materials:

  • 2 – 5” x 5” dark wool felt squares
  • Tools and chain for a 30” necklace
  • 2” metal washer to weight your necklace
  • Baby Lock® Cut Away medium stabilizer
  • Temporary spray adhesive
  • Small embroidery or appliqué scissors
  • Embroidery bobbin thread
  • Embroidery thread assortment (silver metallic was used in the sample)

Tools:

  • Baby Lock Sewing and Embroidery Machine
  • 100mm x 100mm or 4" x 4" hoop

Steps:

  1. At the computer:

    1. Download the file named SnwFlk that contains the embroidery files in a variety of formats.

    2. Unzip the file and save the folder in a location that is easy for you to find.

    3. Locate the file format that is used by your machine. Send this file to your machine following your manufacturer’s instructions.

    4. Open the design in the machine and prepare to stitch it.

  2. Stitch the design:

    1. In the 100mm x 100mm, hoop a piece of tear-away stabilizer.

    2. Stitch the first step in the embroidery design; this will be the placement for the fabric.

    3. Place a felt square on top of the stabilizer.

    4. Stitch the next color. When it is complete, remove the frame from the machine but do not remove the stabilizer from the hoop.

    5. Spray the back side of the stabilizer with temporary spray adhesive.

    6. Attach the washer in the center of the design. Spray this with spray adhesive.

    7. Cut and attach 2 – 5” x 5” pieces of stabilizer.

    8. Spray with spray adhesive one more time and the second felt square to the back of the hoop, sticking it to the spray adhesive.

    9. Carefully replace the hoop on the machine and stitch the final color attaching the back to the front.

  3. Finish the necklace

    1. Remove everything from the hoop.

    2. With sharp scissors, trim about 1/8” from the edge of the stitching.

    3. Using these scissors, make small holes for attaching the hardware.

    4. Attach the hardware using the picture as a diagram.

    5. Wear this to warm up your winter wardrobe.
