Longarm Quilting Getaway

Baby Lock is pleased to announce the Baby Lock Longarm Quilting Getaway for Baby Lock Jewel owners. This is your chance to spend four days mastering your Jewel longarm quilting machine with author and quilt artist Kay Capps Cross. Each day will be packed with basic, advanced and creative techniques along with tips that will increase your longarm quilting knowledge and experience. Watch your longarm skills build and transform in this four day program.

This school will be held in the home base of Baby Lock USA, where the East meets the West in St. Louis, Missouri. The four-day getaway will be held at the Hilton St. Louis at the Ballpark, located in the heart of the Mississippi riverfront, across the street from Busch Stadium, blocks from the world famous Arch and just minutes from many St. Louis attractions.

Kim Capps CrossKay Capps Cross is a renowned quilting instructor and internationally-known quilt designer. She brings over two decades of quilting and teaching experience. Each attendee will receive an exclusive pattern designed by Kay.

Baby Lock will provide the Baby Lock Jewel machine, frame along with all the needed tools for the class. You will only be required to bring is a pencil, sketchbook, and a few basic sewing supplies. The supply list will be sent to you upon registration.

The cost for this program is $648 - this includes all fabrics, threads, batting and sweet treats.

Topics include:

  • Loading the quilt - making it easy and accurate
  • Needles and threads - show the various threads that can be used
  • Perfect tension - how to set and how to recognize when it needs adjusting
  • Bobbins - winding using the bobbin winder and prewounds - when to use
  • Stitch Regulator - what it does, how it helps, when to use it and when to let go
  • Use the front handles and back handles so students become familiar with both
  • Moving into free-hand/free style quilting - or creative quilting
  • Review of the LCD screen and setting - personal settings - setting your machine for you
  • Overview and use the pattern boards, ruler base, stylus and laser
  • Patterns/shapes to start with - recommended book(s) - Sally Terry book - Pathways to Better Quilting: 5 Shapes for Machines Patterns
  • Determining quilt design or design(s), what to quilt where, where to start
  • How to handle borders and sashes
  • How to handle opportunities - twisting, tension problems, don’t like the stitching, lopsided or off the frame, waves on the side of the quilt, batting to small (piecing the batting), backing to small - open to other questions
  • Tips and suggestions to improving your skill
